I am an avid bird watcher (novice level), and love coming here during migration season to see the many different types of waterfowl and birds that come through. The swans are an amazing draw, but I am also learning about the many different types of ducks that I've seen. It also helps that cell signal is more limited, so this has become one of my favorite places to disconnect with the outside world and focus on nature. This is an amazing refuge, and has become one of my favorite places to simply breathe. Beyond that, the history here is wonderful and worth slowing down to read about and explore.
Better bring a long zoom telephoto lens.
I love this place. It's one of simply beautiful land and water with lots of wildlife, water fowl, NC' s largest natural lake, and a lodge once used as the world's largest pumping station.
We came to see the migrating tundra swans spending the winter here. It was absolutely worth the two hour drive from Greenville.
Absolutely beautiful. So much waterfowl in their natural habitat
